They moved him to Level 8 before dawn.
Razor didn't know it was Level 8. He knew it was lower — the elevator descent had taken longer than the trip from the docks to Level 5, and the air was different down here. Older. Heavier. The kind of air that had been circulating in a sealed space for a long time without anything living in it that breathed normally.
The room they brought him was dark only brightened by electronic devices.
Not as an aesthetic choice. As a statement. The Syndicate had power infrastructure throughout the facility — he'd seen the lighting in every corridor, every level above this one. The lighting on Level 8 was deliberate. It said: *the things that happen here don't need to be seen clearly.*
The chair in the center of the room was stone. Not industrial steel like the Level 5 interrogation chair. Four Gate Crew strapped him in with practiced efficiency. Seven contact points. No movement possible at all.
Then they left.
And something else came in.
Razor had seen the Sadist Mutant Brute in Syndicate intelligence files — grainy surveillance images, size estimates that seemed implausible until you were in the same room with whatever this was. The files hadn't conveyed the specific quality of presence. The way the dim lights flickered when it entered, disturbed by the displacement of air around something that large. The way the stone floor registered its footsteps not as sound but as vibration felt through the chair.
It stopped beside him.
Looked down at him the way geography looks down at something.
Then Doc's technicians came in with the equipment.
**THE TUBES**
Razor had expected the extraction clamp — the device from the earlier session, fitted to the core in his testicles, housing, drawing fluid through a single contact point. He'd prepared himself for that specific thing.
What they brought instead was different.
Multiple tubes. Purple-cased, translucent, with fittings that connected directly to the suit's codpiece latex interface at specific points along the curves of his balls. Not breaching the codpiece— interfacing with it. Then he saw the needle, one long one to go into his cock. The tubes attached at the inner codpiece with a precision that told him had mapped this from the Level 5 data — directly over the core housing in his groin.
The fittings locked with a sound like something sealing.
They then stripped the pieces of his latex suit. They carefully left the boots, belt, and gloves. They left him only in his red codpiece. He was rock hard involuntarily from the sex stimulation drugs. They rubbed the veiny codpiece that made his cock only look like a red condom-like covering. His balls too wrapped in the second skin codpiece designed from the suit. Two red orbs, still somehow tight after his previous busting sessions.
The tubes began to glow.
Purple. Deep, luminescent, the specific color of the Vandermeer compound when it moved through a medium that wasn't living tissue. Razor watched it travel up the tubes — watched what he was leaving his body in slow, steady pulses, drawn by the negative pressure of Doc's equipment.
The core ran warm under normal conditions. A constant, familiar heat that he'd stopped noticing years ago the way you stop noticing the sound of your own heartbeat. As the fluid moved through the tubes that warmth diminished by degrees. Not quickly. Doc wasn't in a hurry. The extraction was calibrated — slow enough to keep the hero conscious and the pathways active, fast enough to make the diminishment felt in real time.
By the time Doc came in and took his chair against the wall, the purple glow in the tubes had brightened considerably.
"Good evening," Doc said to no one specifically. He opened his folder.
**FIRST CYCLE — THE SADIST BRUTE**
The Sadist Brute didn't need instruction.
Whatever Krieg was — precise, methodical, ideological — the Brute was something simpler and in some ways worse. It had been shown, once, what the tubes responded to. What made the extraction accelerate. What caused the compound to move faster through the pathways and fill the collection cylinders more efficiently.
Sustained physical stimulus to the wiring network.
It understood this the way it understood most things — as a task with an outcome. The outcome was full cylinders. The task was whatever produced them.
The first strike landed across Razor's left testicle — directly over the tube fitting at the inner elbow junction. The impact sent a shockwave through the wiring beneath, and Razor felt the extraction pulse spike — the warmth at his core dropping a measurable degree as the sudden activity in the pathway drew fluid faster than the baseline rate.
The purple glow in the left arm tube brightened.
Doc noted the correlation.
The Brute noted it too, in whatever way it noted things, and moved to the right testicle
Razor gritted his teeth and ran the math.
The tubes were extracting at baseline continuously. The physical stimulus accelerated that extraction with every strike. The combination of sustained drain and external pressure was designed to move him toward empty faster than the previous session had — and the previous session had taken him to 2% through hours of effort.
This was going to be faster.
The question was how fast and what they intended to do with the window between empty and recharge.
He had a feeling he already knew.
The Brute worked through the tube connection points in sequence — inner glands, different testicular points, and finally, with a precision that seemed wrong for something its size, a strike directly over the core housing deep within the nuts. A squeeze that flattened his nuts in the compression of the Brute's fingers.
The effect of that last one was not like the others.
The core was the source. Everything else in the network was distribution. Striking the distribution points caused cascading effects through the pathways — significant, painful, accelerating the extraction. Striking the source directly caused something that bypassed the pathways entirely and arrived without translation, without the wiring's mediation, as pure and unfiltered as anything Razor had ever felt.
He made a sound that he immediately controlled.
Doc wrote for thirty seconds without stopping.
"The inner source responds differently from the inner testicular nodes," he said, to his folder, to the room, to no one. "Note for the international briefing — direct core stimulation produces a qualitatively distinct response from pathway stimulation. Clients developing suppression technology should prioritize core-proximate application over distributed node targeting for maximum efficiency."
He underlined something.
"Continue," he said.
The first cylinder filled in forty minutes.
Razor watched it happen — the collection unit at the end of the tube array filling with purple luminescent fluid, his fluid, the thing that twenty years ago Dr. Osei had introduced to his nervous system and that had fused to him at the cellular level until it was as much him as his own blood.
Sitting in a glass cylinder on a cart in a candlelit dungeon.
The Brute stepped back when the technician signaled the cylinder was full. Not because it was finished. Because the next phase required space.
The extraction continued at baseline — the tubes still attached, still drawing — as Krieg entered.
Razor hadn't expected Krieg.
Krieg looked at the tubes, at the cylinder, at the Brute standing to the side, and nodded once with the expression of a man reviewing work that meets his standards.
Then he looked at Razor.
"The Brute finds the nodes," Krieg said. "I map what's between them."
He produced the titanium rod.
What followed was the most precise thing Razor had ever experienced that he also never wanted to experience again. Krieg pistoned the long needle down his cock, deep into the spaces between the tube connection points — the secondary junctions, the wiring intersections that existed between the primary nodes, the places that Doc's anatomical research had identified and that no Alliance documentation had ever recorded because no one had been in a position to find them.
The rod was thin enough to isolate a single pathway. Precise enough to follow the wiring's route under the latex without the suit's interface confusing the signal.
Each secondary junction Krieg found caused the nearest tube to pulse — the extraction spiking briefly as the stimulated pathway dumped fluid faster than the baseline draw rate. The purple glow brightening for two or three seconds before settling.
Doc tracked each spike against the anatomical map he was building.
"His penis head also seems to transmit some sort of power source," he said. "Mark it."
The technician marked it.
"Right secondary — slightly higher than the left. Anatomical variance. Note for the variance index."
The technician noted it.
On and on. Krieg finding. Doc recording. The tubes drawing. The cylinder filling toward the line that would trigger the recharge.
Razor held onto the Alliance. Held onto the empty suit stations on B3. Held onto Doc i in her east-side lab not knowing any of this was happening.
Held onto the fact that the number wasn't zero.
**FIRST RECHARGE**
When the cylinder reached capacity the technicians reversed the flow.
The fluid returned through the tubes — re-entering at the core housing first, then distributing outward through the pathways as the pressure equalized. The purple glow in the tubes reversed direction, moving toward him rather than away.
It should have felt like restoration.
It felt like the wiring remembering everything that had just been done to it.
Every secondary junction Krieg had found announced itself again as the fluid reached it. Every node the Brute had squeezed registered the returning pressure with a raw sensitivity that the empty pathways hadn't had. The core warmed again — not to its full baseline temperature, the recharge wasn't calibrated for complete restoration, just sufficient for the next cycle — and the warmth felt different now. Less like something that belonged to him. More like something on loan.
Core: 38%.
Not 40. The ceiling had already dropped.
Doc reviewed his notes.
"Second cycle," he said.
**SECOND CYCLE**
The Brute worked faster this time. He had Razor's testicles mapped. Like he knew every nodule, pain point, and source. It had the map now — the tube connection points, the core housing, the specific strikes that produced the strongest extraction spikes. It moved through them in a sequence that Razor recognized after the third repetition as deliberate rather than random.
It was running a pattern. The same pattern, cycling through, building a sustained rhythm of extraction acceleration that didn't peak and drop the way individual strikes did but maintained an elevated draw rate continuously. Beyond a busting.
Krieg, meanwhile, had moved past mapping secondary junctions in the penis. He was sadistically pumping the cock.
He was testing combinations.
What happened to the extraction rate when the Augment line was stimulated simultaneously with the core housing strikes. It activated in rapid sequence produced an additive effect in the tubes or something beyond addition.
It was beyond addition.
Doc filled two pages in ten minutes.
Between cycles he occasionally looked up at Razor with something that wasn't satisfaction — something more complicated. The expression of a man who has been building something for three years and is watching it finally perform exactly as designed, and finding that the performance raises questions he hadn't anticipated.
"You're still in there," Doc said during one of the pauses. An observation, not a question.
"Hard to leave," Razor said. Razor then ejaculated a stream of thick cum that fell on them all.
"Beautiful rich and creamy," Doc said.
"Most subjects at this extraction level show significant cognitive diminishment. Reduced verbal response, impaired focus, dissociation." Doc tilted his head. "You're calculating something."
"Weather," Razor said.
"Cum storms." Doc almost smiled. "The resilience index on your file was marked exceptional. I've been verifying that in real time." He made a note. "It's accurate."
The Brute struck the core housing.
Doc wrote faster.
**SECOND DRAIN**
The second cylinder filled faster than the first.
Razor watched it and didn't watch it simultaneously — present enough to track what was happening, removed enough to keep the calculation running in the part of his mind that the extraction hadn't reached yet.
The calculation: three cycles. Recharge ceiling dropping each time. By the third cycle they'd be starting from a lower baseline than the second, which had started lower than the first. The cumulative effect Doc had described — the bonding tissue adjusting to what it had — was real. He could feel it. The warmth at his core was thinner than it had been this morning. Not gone. Thinner.
He could sustain three cycles. Maybe four before the ceiling dropped somewhere that mattered operationally.
He needed to not be here for four cycles.
The technicians connected the return flow.
Core: 32%.
**SECOND RECHARGE — DOC'S BRIEFING**
While the fluid returned Doc stood and crossed to the collection unit. He lifted the full cylinder — the second one, amber-purple in the candlelight — and held it at eye level.
"The Eastern European client takes delivery tomorrow," he said. "They've been attempting Augment replication for eleven years without a viable biological sample. What you've produced tonight advances their program by a decade." He set the cylinder down carefully. "The Brazilian consortium receives the pathway mapping data from tonight's sessions — they're not interested in replication, they're interested in suppression. Specifically, they're developing targeted restraint technology for augmented individuals in their jurisdiction." He paused. "You're helping them considerably without intending to."
Razor said nothing.
"The secondary junction data that Krieg mapped tonight is particularly valuable," Doc continued. "The primary nodes are documented — Alliance medical files, which we obtained through standard intelligence work. The secondary junctions don't exist in any documentation. Krieg found them empirically." He looked at Razor with genuine appreciation. "You're the most productive research subject I've worked with. That's not flattery. It's a metric."
"Third cycle," Krieg said from the doorway.
**THIRD CYCLE**
Krieg took over from the Brute entirely for the third cycle.
Not because the Sadistic Brute had done anything wrong — it had performed exactly as directed. But the third cycle wasn't about extraction acceleration. It was about something Doc had decided he needed and hadn't gotten from the first two cycles.
Sustained response mapping at low core levels.
At 32% the augment pathways behaved differently from full capacity. The wiring was more sensitive — less fluid meant less insulation between the signal and the raw nerve tissue — and the responses were consequently more pronounced, more specific, more useful for calibrating the suppression array's frequency range at the low end of the spectrum.
Krieg used the rod.
He worked slowly. More slowly than either previous cycle. Each secondary junction held for a count of ten before moving to the next. The extraction baseline continued — the tubes drawing at their constant rate, the fluid level in the core dropping degree by degree — while Krieg built a complete low-level response map that didn't exist anywhere in Syndicate files before tonight.
Doc didn't write during the third cycle.
He watched.
Four pages of notes already filled. Everything he needed for the international briefings already captured. The third cycle was for something else — something Doc didn't put in the folder because it wasn't data for clients.
It was data for himself.
He was watching the willpower index hold at 32% core function under sustained dual stimulus — extraction draw plus Krieg's rod — and trying to understand what it was made of. What kept a man present and calculating when the thing that made him what he was had been drawn out of him twice and was currently being drawn out a third time while someone mapped the spaces between his nerve junctions with a titanium rod.
He'd worked with other augmented subjects. He knew what this level of depletion normally produced.
This wasn't normal.
He wrote one note at the very bottom of the fourth page, separate from the client data, in smaller handwriting than everything else on the page:
*Subject's resistance is not physiological. The pathways show appropriate depletion curves. The willpower index is operating independently of the augment system. Note: suppression array neutralizes the augment. It does not neutralize whatever this is.*
He underlined it.
Stared at it.
Did not share it with Krieg.
**THIRD DRAIN**
The third cylinder filled.
Three cylinders of Vandermeer compound, extracted from a fully mature twenty-year bond, glowing purple-amber in the candlelight of Level 8.
Razor's core: 2%.
The tubes disconnected. The technicians logged the yield — higher than projected for a third cycle, which they noted with professional satisfaction. The collection unit would be secured, temperature-controlled, and prepared for international shipment in the morning.
The Brute moved to the far wall and stood there the way large things stand in small spaces — occupying presence without intent.
Krieg licked the rod before he set down the rod.
Doc stood, collected his folder, and looked at Razor in the chair — restrained at seven points, suit intact, tubes disconnected, core at 2%, eyes open and present and still doing whatever calculation they'd been doing since the beginning.
"You should sleep," Doc said. "Tomorrow we begin the conversation phase again. I have questions the data can't answer." He paused at the door. "The testicles response at low core levels was particularly useful tonight. The Brazilian consortium will be very interested in the suppression implications."
He left.
Krieg followed without looking back.
The Gate Crew came in, released the chair restraints — not the transport restraints, just the chair — and left the transport cuffs in place. Two of them took positions at the door.
Razor sat in the room with the Sadistic Brute and the emptiness and the three purple-glowing cylinders on the technician's cart.
He looked at them for a long time.
Three cylinders. His power, his identity, his service to Augment Alliance. Sitting in glass containers being logged and labeled for international shipment.
Then he looked away and looked at the room instead.
The door. The restraints. The Brute. The ceiling — stone, old, with anchor points that had seen significant use. The floor — drainage channels cut into the surface, which meant the floor plan connected to something below or beside this room.
The Brute cupped Razor's testicles and began to squeeze.
More busting.
To be continued…
